Kaplan Professional, a leading national provider of education in financial services offers the Kaplan Professional Tier 1 general advice in the superannuation specialist knowledge area.

Superannuation is a key savings tool for retirement and receives support through government incentives and concessional tax treatment.

In this subject, individuals explore the characteristics of the superannuation industry in Australia and superannuation as a means of funding retirement.

The subject will provide the foundation skills for understanding how superannuation operates and its benefits in supporting retirement lifestyles.

Access to superannuation is limited to preserve the funds for use in retirement. Taxation of superannuation is at lower rates to offer an incentive to save for retirement. These features will be explained in the context of the legislation that governs superannuation.

This is a non-accredited course with no units of competency.

Pathways

This subject forms part of the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation (GAS-Super) course. This course is designed for individuals seeking to work, or who are already working in the superannuation industry in customer-facing roles, especially general advice. Duration

Individuals have a total of 12 weeks to complete the learning and assessment requirements from their initial enrolment date.

An additional four (4) weeks per subject is available if required to re-sit an exam.

Education requirements

Individuals enrolling into Tier 1 Superannuation – General Advice will need to have met the Generic Knowledge entry requirements prior to enrolling into this course.

Individuals are also required to be aged 18 years or older to enrol into this course.

Generic Knowledge entry requirements

To meet the Generic Knowledge entry requirements for this course, you will need to demonstrate knowledge obtained through formal studies (completed within the last five years) of three of the four topic areas detailed below:

Topic 1: The Australian financial system and economic environment

Topic 2: Introduction to the Australian financial services industry and legislation

Topic 3: Investment asset classes and mortgage loans

Topic 4: General Insurance

Language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) requirements

This course requires you to read comprehensive learner workbooks, complete a range of written assessments, undertake independent research activities, and at times, engage in online forums and discussions. Furthermore, the delivery mode relies on the extensive use of written communication.

Studying this subject for the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation course

Please search for and enrol in the subject titled “Tier 1 Superannuation General Advice – GAS-Super” if you have not yet completed Tier 1 Superannuation General Advice and wish to study this as part of the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation course.

Exemptions to Tier 1 Superannuation General Advice
You may be exempted from having to study this subject within the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation course if you have previously completed either:

  • Tier 1 Superannuation General Advice at Kaplan Professional; or
  • RG146 Superannuation through an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO) ; or
  • A Diploma (AQF5) or higher-level qualification at an accredited Australian higher education provider.

If your prior Tier 1 Superannuation General Advice was completed at Kaplan Professional, your exemptions towards the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation course will automatically be applied upon enrolment into CFS Client engagement in financial services.

If your prior Tier 1 Superannuation General Advice was completed through an RTO, or equivalent studies were completed through a Diploma or higher qualification, your exemptions towards the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation course will be applied upon submission of certified supporting evidence and a completed application form available here.

Note: Studies completed between 5 – 10 years may require the completion of a challenge exam in addition to supporting evidence. Studies completed outside of 10 years will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

IMPORTANT: Please do not enrol in Tier 1 Superannuation General Advice – GAS-Super if you intend to seek an exemption for this subject for the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation course. Please await the outcome of your exemption application before proceeding. However, you may enrol and commence studies in other subjects in the General Advice Specialisation – Superannuation course for which you are not seeking exemption/s.

This course is delivered online via Kaplan Professional’s learning management system, KapLearn.

You will receive login details to KapLearn on enrolment. When you log on to KapLearn, you are able to access the subject notes, assessments, additional learning materials (such as media, case studies practise activities) and your online tutor.

Assessments are accessed and submitted through KapLearn.
