Goal setting … Why and how you should do it

We bet a lot of you set yourselves goals to achieve daily, monthly and yearly. However, how many of you have actually taken steps to achieve these goals?

We bet a lot of you set yourselves goals to achieve daily, monthly and yearly. However, how many of you have actually taken steps to achieve these goals?

Goal setting is something that gets thrown around a lot, but have you ever wondered the importance? Think of the saying ‘how can you get where you want to go until you know where you’re going’.  Setting goals is a fundamental component to long-term success.  Goals help you focus and allocate your time and resources efficiently and keep you motived when something may have led you astray. Additionally, Research indicates a direct link between goals and enhanced performance.

Developing an objective

Defining an objective is imperative. A clear objective will allow you to focus on what you want to achieve.

  • Is it feasible and specific?
  • Is it measurable?
  • Is it aligned?
  • Don’t bite off more than you can chew
  • Set both short-term and long-term goals

Reaching your objective

It’s important to remember that there is no single path to reaching your objective. Things happen; it might take longer or be more complicated than you originally planned. Sometimes, you may even realise that your objective is simply too difficult to reach in its current form. Whatever happens, remain flexible and don’t be afraid to adjust your objective.

  • Be flexible
  • Remain motivated and be committed
  • Celebrate success and reward yourself

Have you achieved a goal recently? What did you do to make it achievable? Please share below.
