The online Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Advice) is built, designed and taught in conjunction with experienced industry practitioners. You will gain practical financial advice skills and specialist knowledge essential for advancement in the industry. Learning takes place in Kaplan Professional’s innovative and 100% online learning portal, KapLearn. You will have access to continuous technical support from subject matter experts in a dedicated ‘Ask Your Tutor’ forum. KapLearn also contains a number of interactive and engaging study resources to enhance your online learning experience.

This qualification has been designed for individuals who’ve successfully completed the Certificate in Financial Advice qualification and are looking to further specialise and seek a higher qualification, along with enhancing their skills as financial adviser with a focus on development of soft skills.

In order to meet the programme requirements, you must complete two subjects from the elective list below. The six specialist areas allow you to focus on a particular knowledge area, tailoring your study to an area of interest or to align with career aspirations.

Client Engagement Skills (30 credit points)

This course focuses on behavioural finance concepts to understand different types of behavioural biases that may impact an individual’s financial decision-making. It examines portfolio and prospect theories and the application of behavioural finance to the outcomes of client engagements. It explains how emotional intelligence and critical thinking can assist a financial adviser to understand their client’s perspectives

Massey CoursesEthics in Financial Advice (30 credit points)

This course focuses on the ethical and professional obligations of financial advisers through the broad lens of philosophical approaches to ethics; conduct expected in the Financial Advice Code and the Financial Markets Authority. Students will examine the ethically complex situations encountered by financial advisers when engaging clients in the advice process.

Important: individuals need to have previously completed the Certificate in Financial Advice qualification and must select two (2) new subjects from the list above to qualify for the Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Advice).

Entry requirements and fees

You must have completed the Massey University Certificate in Financial Advice to be eligible for entry into this qualification.

The Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Advice) is not eligible for Fees Free study. Visit the StudyLink website to check availability and find out more.

The total fee for the Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Advice) is $1,800.

In addition, there will be some compulsory non-tuition fees/levies for some qualifications. There may also be charges for activities such as study resources, software, trips, and contact workshops.

*Applicants who are 20 years of age or older, who do not have a university entrance qualification, are eligible for entry, provided places are available.

Duration and intakes

The duration of each intake is 12 weeks. You will have up to 12 months to complete the Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Advice) from your initial enrolment date. Intakes commence every second month:

  • April
  • June
  • August
  • October
  • December

This provides you with the flexibility and freedom to plan your studies around your personal and professional commitments.

Future study opportunities

On completion of the Diploma in Business Studies (Financial Advice), you may be eligible for entry into Massey University’s Bachelor of Business (Financial Planning and Advice) – the only qualification of its kind in New Zealand.
